It seems as a people, we have a fascination with photographing our food. Some of us spend more time staging and photographing than we do actually eating. From Henry’ Hargreaves’ series of back stage food riders, to looking on Instagram, we cant help but document what we consume.
Photographer Peter Menzel started this intriguing series of one weeks of groceries from around the world, taking traditional food photography to a much larger scale. Take a look and when you’re planning your next vacation or visit, consider what’s for dinner.

Now that you’ve seen how the rest of the world lives or eats, you might want to consider a cheap and lean grocery list on a budget. Kudos to Positive Health Wellness for sharing this sweet little life-hack.
It would be great to see the same thing done with similar size and aged families.
I really love the type of ideas this projects brings to light. I created a whole website about diet and how it relates to cultures around the world. Check it out here: http://www.plantdietlife.com A community. Eating plants to feel good.
eat plants, stay strong!
Hi Chellee,
You may well be right about Israel. I didn’t compile the pics for a week’s worth of groceries, but you’ve given me a great idea. Maybe we need to have a contest to include as many countries as possible and then vote.
I remember eating in Isarel and what I remember was mostly fresh produce. The falafel was addicting. That’s all I wanted to eat – plus fresh squeezed juices. Watermelon was out of this world.
You missed the boat not having Israel as one of your countries. All the fresh vegetables , fish and chicken prepared in a delicious styles. Humus an Babaganush the best!
Delicious breads and deserts. Yogurt and many cheese. Rice made in delicious manners, Olives and pickled egg plant. What more could you want!
Sorry you missed the boat! A regular customer, Chellee Siegel
USA is the only one that looked like fast food was part of the meals for the week.. Sad because it’s not part of this family’s weekly meals. We cook everyday, breakfast – lunch and Dinner. I know several that cooking is the way it is. Ordering pizza maybe once every 2-3 months and fast food rarely happens.
